Currently Cold in Calvert County

As hot and as muggy as it was this morning, its now as breezy and cool. It finally feels like fall but the drastic change leaves me feeling a bit blitzed. I, as surely nearly every other human, prefer a more gradual change and/or warning.

Today had great visits to St. Mary's City, the Pax Naval Museum, Captain Leonard's for lunch, and Soller's Plantation.

All of us were a bit tired or otherwise and the weather wasn't stellar so we opted for dinner at home this evening. I was elated.

Got home about 5. I had some snackies - grapes, cheese, carrots, crackers, etc - procured an adult beverage and commenced my personal happy hour. Sat on the screened in porch wrapped in a blanket reading (blink, Malcolm Gladwell).

I want everyone to recognize the Snuggie/Slanket does apparntly, have an audience. On the proch, I couldn't very well juggle blanket, book, food and beveragel.

I'm a believer!! Sew arms on your blankets or wear your bathrobes backwards ASAP!!!!!

Thank You!!!

I believe the votes are in for the Mobbies. I haven't checked results yet. Big thanks to all who supported me! Please still check out the blog if you have time. Ill certainly be wasting time gassing off about my relatively mundane existence. Thank you again for your support - always! Big hugs! d

Long Day

The whole house is quiet, aside from my bumping around. But even I'm more subdued than usual.

It's wonderful. There are no real chores to attend to. My biggest worry is figuring out the timer on the coffee pot.

Currently amusing myself trying to figure out how to sketch a beached catamaran I saw at Cove Point Beach this afternoon while the dogs swam.
I barely have phone service in the house which initially created panic but nothing awful has materialized so I'm embracing it.

We got to see a bald eagle fishing for dinner earlier today. It was very close and positively breathtaking. Also crawled around on the ground taking close up shots of a snapping turtle. Snapped some gulls, ducks, and terns but I really do need a better zoom to get personal with the birds. They aren't as trusting as a snapping turtle.

Had a late dinner at a place called CD Cafe. Its located in Solomon's. Service and food were fantastic. No local seafood on the menu but the food was presented well and was creative yet familiar. I'd definitely go back!

The temperature here is holding steady at an unseasonable 79 degrees and humid too!

Not too many no-see-ums. A huge plus. No need for bug spray (yet). Its so clear here and the stars are brilliant. I suspect this might be about to change. Surely all this humidity will break with a deluge soon.

We've appointed C the "Director.". That is he's supposed to be telling us what we should see and do when. Poor devil has been overruled left and right! Haha.

I work really hard to be positive on a daily basis. Yet I think it takes days like these to remind me how it feels to NOT have to work at it - to just allow it to happen. To be spontaneous. To be "free.". To feel beautiful without 4 inch heels, a blow out, and spanx. To sleep with 140 lbs of salty, sandy Labrador retriever mixes. To relish two more days of this!!!

Of course its not practical to think If I moved here everyday would be this fabulous but maybe that's exactly why vacations are so wonderfull.

Ducks on Chesapeake Beach

Finally! Molly Gets Her Swim On

Lusby, Maryland.

Already had encounters with a turtle, a bald eagle and a very cranky local. So far the area gets high marks for abundant flora, fauna, and human jerks.

Adventure Dogs

They look a little uncharacteristically mellow don't they?

Battle Creek Cypress Swamp

I guess someone felt like a little processed meat snack?

Unplanned Stop 3 - Battle Creek

Cypress Swamp. The northernmost stand of Cypress in the country. Trees with knees as they say. Not much water in the swamp but it was still a nice walk.

Calvert County - Unplanned stop #2

Sign said War of 1812 Site. Of course we had to check it out. This is the Patuxent River. British Marines anchored here during the War of 1812 and began to create havoc - stealing tobacco and so forth

First Stop - Jug Bay Marshlands

This was mainly to relieve the dogs and give them a drink. Molly tried to sneak in a swim several times. Not time for that yet. Tilghman got some burrs and other assorted seeds stuck to him.

Check this out - for once it's not me on the phone with work on a day off!

Road Trip!!

Things are going remarkably smoothly in terms of preparation for this little adventure. Can't help but wonder if a SNAFU is looming?

Few more chores and items to address and we should be able to hit the road.

The blog won't likely be entirely silent for the weekend since Ill have the BB; but good pics won't be posted until early next week. Not dragging computer and gear. Extra memory cards are small and much more portable.

Obama gets a Nobel prize? I think he's doing a great job but Nobel Prize? Already? Surely this onion has many layers. The talking heads will analyze it to death over the course of the weekend. Not sure I care to listen. I'm on vacay!!!!

News You Can or May Use

Doing my quick scan of the news this evening and noticed a couple of things. . .

1. Johns Hopkins professor Carol W. Greider has earned a Nobe Prize for her work in molecular biology and genetics.

2. Contrast this to an emotional, albeit hot-mess and nurse by education, Kate Gosselin who apparently went on the Today show earlier today complaining that her estranged husband emptied their bank account.

3. Young father and Sun Business Editor, Timothy M. Wheatley, was killed this morning in a traffic accident while taking his daughter to school.

How do you want to be perceived? How do you want to conduct yourself? How will you be remembered?

Go Carol!!

And, go Kate!!! But for the love of gawd, go in a direction that will be beneficial for your children.

Heartfelt condolences to Mr. Wheatley's family - whom I think would agree life is precious and fleeting.

Be a good example. Do your best. Give thanks. This world spins quickly. Your proactive and positive forces upon it can only enhance your existence and will touch others as well.

Sammy's Could be the Death of Me

But I will certainly die happy! Met more friends there this evening. Turns out they were interested in checking it out and invited us to come with - score! I ate entirely too much. If we're going to continue this sort of stuff I need to stop treating every meal like it could be my last.

The calamari was sublime - not even a hit of greasy or rubbery. . .C and I sampled the capellini alla ella and a dish I can only refer to as "something, something ricey" - but no rice. It's this awesome Gorgonzola tortellini in a cream sauce with peas and mushrooms.

Tomorrow I'll be wearing my "fat" pants and eating rice cakes. It's soooo worth it.

Our company this evening was fantastic and hopefully we'll have another opportunity to catch up again soon.

Speaking of good food and good company, C and I have an exciting weekend adventure planned with the 'rents (C's parents). . .Headed to Chesapeake Beach for about three days (with the dogs too).

C has been doing a little research attempting to stake out sites and attractions that will appeal to the group. One of his colleagues at work must have mentioned that he frequents that part of Maryland.

C: "Have you ever been to St. Mary's City?" (That's basically this primitive living history display about the first colony in MD.)

Colleague: "No. We like to enjoy our vacations."

WTF?! What am I in for?!

I'd like to go put my little easel and art niche to work but I feel too full to assume a fully upright position at the moment!

Art comes out. . .

Spent a lot of time doing "art" in the basement. Bought that easel to display "art"

Finally put two and two together this evening! I can sketch, if I want while I'm making dinner. I can sketch dinner haha!

I love having a little creative niche. Something that takes up so little space can encourage and inspire.

And when friends visit, I can put the menu on the easel, move the tray and stool to where ever needed. Small places are great. You keep only what you need and love.

Fells Point Festival #108

"I expect some parts of Fells Point would serve Mr. Dickens first rate. It's as old as the hills and as crooked as a ram's horn and a body can hear just about as much bad English there as he could among the Cockneys of London. . ."

Ice Cream Truck: "Caution Don't Skid on the Kids!"

Hilarious.

Fells Point Festival #55

You can get almost every kind of food imaginable at the festival. Each vendor has their own generator humming away to provide electricity. I can't imagine the logistics that go into the ordering of supplies and set up for an estimated crowd of 700,000.

You can also get a wide variety of products and services. From knock off sunglasses to basement waterproofing. We walked past a booth. . .

d: "One thousand thread count sheets?!"

Weary Vendor Packing up for the Night: "Yeah, if you come back tomorrow, we'll have one million count."

Hahahaha.

Fells Point Festival #54

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This pretty much sums up the action close to the waterfront - where the drinking establishments and beer gardens are located. We arrived about 8 and believe it or not, the party seemed to be winding down a little. It appeared everyone went at it early. The bars were still packed but it also appeared there was a good deal of slurring, staggering, and screaming already occurring. Most everyone was in a great mood though. . .didn't see any brawls.

The man in the picture with his arms raised, "Come on, you know you want to take my picture!" Actually, I didn't really notice specfic people, but it was kind of him to offer.
