When Twitter is too Damned Short!!!!

Just realized the neighbors are actually having an Olympics party. Could be a long several weeks. They seem VERY um engaged. If that keg is Molson Ice, help us all baby Jesus.

(For those of you that don't tweet. . .I saw the keg about 10AM, wondered how they could fit enough folks in the house to kick a keg. . .Later it sounded like they did it and were playing guitar hero. . .And now I fully realize they are all drunky, drunk, Olympic fools running all over the place screaming USA from the roof deck.)

BTW, don't act like you don't have a good Molson Ice story. . .You ARE LYING!!!

Hidden Treasure #28

Yes, I put crayons in a shadow box. Who says that can't be art? It's pretty. It's interesting. It might just be a commentary on stifling the creativity and imagination of youth. (It's not. I just like the way it looks. Sounded good though huh?)

Here's the treasure:

I previously fessed up to clipping all sorts of things from magazines. I'm pretty good at keeping them corralled. Yet, one got stuck in a Maryland Bar Journal from 2007, which I hoped to read apparently. This treasured quote at least validates my consistency:

"When you look back on a lifetime and think of what has been given to the world by your presence, your fugitive presence, inevitably you think of your art, whatever it may be, as the gift you have made to the world in acknowledgement of the gift you have been given, which is the life itself. . .That work is not an expression of the desire for praise or recognition, or prizes, but the deepest manifestation of your gratitude for the gift of life." - Stanley Kunitz

Pretty powerful. Beautiful. As Katz would say, "send your signal" because as Kunitz claims, it's your manifestation of your gratitude for life.

And gratitude is never ugly, nor is it ever insignificant. It is seldom unappreciated. Whatever your art is. . .do it. Embrace it.

Apparently to do otherwise would be ungrateful.

Battle of the Basement '10 #25

Twice a year our hard-working basement needs a good purge. It got it. Quite pleased with the end results. Although for quite a while, I suspected I was just creating a massive pile of junk on top of a filthy floor. I'm sure this wasn't just a day I'll never get back. hahahaha!

On the Verge of Getting Out. . Rip up the House. . .

Started going a bit nuts yesterday but was too lazy to take action. Today was a tad different. Much like a crossword puzzle and the way I write, I like to start at the bottom left. Plus, in terms of the house, it's closest to the beer fridge. hahaha.

I've made good progress. I like finding things that I no longer use that someone else might benefit from. Found a bunch of documents in my Father's handwriting. Realized today I miss him but it's going to be ok.

Reminded myself, like I do everyday, it's going to be ok. And it is. It always is. . .Given all the advantages and opportunities I've been offered. I'm very fortunate.

Canton. This morning about 8.

Yesterday the Mayor threatened $500 fines for driving in the City. Today, there's no fine involved but folks were strongly cautioned to stay off the streets. . .I guess the reason should be obvious from this pic.

Think Spring #52

"Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure."

A little something from Oprah to meditate on while you're gasping for breath shoveling 40 some inches of heavy, wet snow.

On Tuesday, C walked to get himself some lunch and stopped at our favorite florist who had some flowers for purchase. Amazing how this world works. In the midst of winter's onslaught, you can still get fresh flowers. The florist never disappoints and I was able to get three arrangements out of the bunch. They are the brightening up the house and our long days stuck in it.

Blog-worthy Txt. . .Courtesy of Sister D.

d: we have a conference call tomorrow to discuss getting to work.

Sister D: What is there to discuss? It's a effing mess outside.

d: We're effed. Just got word they moved the call back 2 hours. SNOW DAY! (This would be cool if not for the 4 we already had). haha

Sister D: I want a snow day! God

d: Trust me. Not this way. It's awful. Pics on the blog. U'll see. We can't afford snow plows in ghetto Bmore!

Sister D: No but they can afford snow-fas!

d: That made me LOL for real! Effing snowfa sitters will be shoveling little b*%$&ches tomorow. :)

White Death Commeth Part II

This from a friend who just tried to go to the grocery. I'm not sure, but suspect she's cooking her family ketchup soup for the next two days?

Meanwhile, what is that one lonely green thing on the produce shelf? Some broccoli? Bok Choi? What is that?

It's like getting picked last for kickball/dodgeball/ultimate Frisbee in the veggie world.

I'd pick you brave greenery!! I love an underdog!

No More Snow Yo.

Pally-Pickley-Paller #143

Beauty in small, simple things. . .

Pally-Pickley-Paller #138

When I was a kid, I called these fluffy seed heads pally-pickley-pallers. I'm not sure if that was my own doing or at the twisted encouragement of my Mom and Dad?

Regardless, I saw this one bent over, covered in snow and ice Sunday afternoon and tried to shoot it while the wind was whipping it around. I didn't do too bad considering how much it was blowing around. . .

Strung Out #136

Yup. Still snowing. hahahaha (imagine my most maniacal laugh).

Does anyone else wonder what it is about the genetics of pigeons that causes them to have such variations in their feather colors/patterns?

I didn't think so.

Strung Out #134

This weather is deplorable. Getting positively slammed again tonight. I'm trying to take it in stride, accept I cannot control the weather, and work will still be waiting when I finally get back to it.

Today I was able to hitch a ride. Thank goodness for kindness! It does seem to be more obvious and appreciated when things get a little difficult. That's certainly one beautiful thing amidst all this dirty snow. . .

Kindness, a camaraderie in facing a common adversity.

Why does it have to snow nearly 4 feet for us to behave this way? (Well aside from all the a-holes driving too fast for conditions. . .You can still jam it.)

Birds on a wire. Taken Sunday the 7th in the mid-morning.

Now I've Seen it All?

Walked to dinner just to get out of the house for a bit. We are stuck. Tried to get to work mid-morning with no luck. No signs of plows anytime soon. Our cars just don't have the clearance to get thru unplowed streets.

Folks down the block made a "Snow-Fa.". They made a living room out of snow at the end of the street and are drinking and watching movies and playing cornhole.

With another 10 to 20 inches forecast, people are showing signs of cracking. Lots of folks wandering the streets with shovels in one hand and Natty Boh in the other.

Heard one guy screaming at a snowplow "Where the eff have you been for 3 days you a-hole?"

Think Spring!

Snow-ma-geddon #125

Put out a tray of hot coffee, Bailey's, whiskey, the fixins' and some freshly baked coconut-pecan muffins for the snow shovelers on our street. They helped themselves.

They helped the block. . .since no snow plow will do our street.

I'd like to think I helped too. . .

Watched part of a piece on CBS this morning about a family that ultra-downsized. They took the six figure profit from selling their home and donated it.

That's right. They decided to live in a smaller house and donated the profits from the sale of their home to an organization that helps empower folks around the world - growing their own food, being more "efficient" in the process, starting a whole spiral of wonderful positive events for those communities. . .

Did my weak coffee in a fancy coffee press and thermos do something of that magnitude? No.

Was it a small offering of thanks for all our neighbors do to be great neighbors everyday? Yes.

Did we all have a heart-swelling sense of community? I think so.

What a powerful feeling. . .Not for you, but rather for your community.

Small steps toward a world of good acts.

When you become a dog of Molly's age, gone are the days of tearing through shoulder high snow at lightening speeds like Tilghman. You take time to sniff the snow so to speak. . .or eat it. . .

Poor Molly, the winters aren't as much fun as they used to be for her. She had a bit of a tumble down the stairs last evening and caught a toe nail. . .Blood everywhere. As soon as we can get a Vet to check it out we will. Although it doesn't seem too bad.

She still managed to enjoy her early walk at the Park.
