Pally-Pickley-Paller #143

Beauty in small, simple things. . .

Pally-Pickley-Paller #138

When I was a kid, I called these fluffy seed heads pally-pickley-pallers. I'm not sure if that was my own doing or at the twisted encouragement of my Mom and Dad?

Regardless, I saw this one bent over, covered in snow and ice Sunday afternoon and tried to shoot it while the wind was whipping it around. I didn't do too bad considering how much it was blowing around. . .

Strung Out #136

Yup. Still snowing. hahahaha (imagine my most maniacal laugh).

Does anyone else wonder what it is about the genetics of pigeons that causes them to have such variations in their feather colors/patterns?

I didn't think so.

Strung Out #134

This weather is deplorable. Getting positively slammed again tonight. I'm trying to take it in stride, accept I cannot control the weather, and work will still be waiting when I finally get back to it.

Today I was able to hitch a ride. Thank goodness for kindness! It does seem to be more obvious and appreciated when things get a little difficult. That's certainly one beautiful thing amidst all this dirty snow. . .

Kindness, a camaraderie in facing a common adversity.

Why does it have to snow nearly 4 feet for us to behave this way? (Well aside from all the a-holes driving too fast for conditions. . .You can still jam it.)

Birds on a wire. Taken Sunday the 7th in the mid-morning.

Fells Point Snow #108

Funny, eerie how the snow muffles things. . .

Pfft. . .Sonofagun?! #132

The desire to photograph hit me. Hard. I admittedly have no idea what I'll do with all these photos. I admittedly don't care. I love taking them. Making them interesting. . .for someone.

Bugs! #10

"Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it."
- Confucius

This is a good pic to double click.

Bugs! #15

When I let the dogs in the yard earlier today I looked to my left and noticed these small bugs on a weed(?) in the planter. They are super small. I think they might be aphids?

It's very cold here compared to the weather we've been experiencing. In fact, this morning is the first time we had to turn on the heat. I wonder where the aphids winter? I wonder why they wouldn't just dig in the dirt instead of clinging to a weed in the cold air?

If you enlarge the pic by double clicking on it, you can really make out some delicate details on the bug to the far right. I think this truly tested the auto adjustments on my camera. I hope the bugs stick around awhile so I can practice some manual adjustments in the daylight.

Butterfly - Port Tobacco Courthouse #518

Butterflies are difficult to photograph. They don't stay still very long. Adding to my lack of patience was the fact that I couldn't really get on the ground and stay still. the butterflies were eating rotting fruit - which was all over the ground - and not appealing to roll around in.

Jelly Fish #422

Could I be getting the hang of this photography stuff? Doubtful. For every decent pic, there are 50 disappointing ones. . .

I was mesmerized by the jellyfish tank at the Calvert Marine Museum.

Sunday Drive Pics #44

I wanted to try too. . .I didn't get two bees like C but still turned out pretty good. Of course, the reason he had the camera in the first place is because I wasn't sure I could actually get into the field in my 4 inch mock snakeskin peep toe pumps. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Sunday Drive Pics #38

C took this one. Has anyone else noticed he's clearly infatuated with bugs (esp bees) on flowers? All joking aside, it's beautiful!

To really appreciate it, double click so you can see it enlarged. I've been manipulating it in our photo program - the options for cropping, etc seem endless.

Sunday Drive Pics #34

In nature and also in society, there are certain individuals that stand out because they are exceptional in some regard.

This sunflower, standing tall seems to scream "Look at me!" I bet all the bees take notice. I bet some small part of this sunflower will live on long after fall's first frost because those bees noticed and dispersed its pollen.

How are we exceptional? Who's our bee? What will remain of us after we're gone?

Couldn't we all work a little harder at becoming exceptional? That doesn't necessarily mean we need to be perfect or be the best at something. I think becoming an exceptional human being requires a lot of hard work, compassion, and courage. Sometimes it may require sacrifice, patience, struggle. Sometimes it may require demonstrating empathy and compassion or even a sense of humor.

Today my Great "Aunt" Laura celebrated her 90th birthday. She lives alone, in a big old farmhouse, in the country (a huge feat itself). And today, droves of people of all ages came to her home to help celebrate with her.

Laura is clearly an exceptional human being. She has lived her life in a way that has somehow endeared her to all of these people. Laura has found her bees. And we adore her.

Sunday Drive Pics #26

Nearly as far as the eye could see, there were sunflowers. The pictures can't really do justice to the mass quantity. I tried though.
